Britannia Before the Romans Invaded
Before the Romans invaded Britannia, the land was ruled by tribes of Celts. These tribes were commanded by chiefs and they often fought one another. However, all chiefs answered to the king or queen. They built forts on hill tops for defense and used chariots in battle. Though, not all tribes fought. Most were farmers, who lived in villages. They lived in round houses with thatched roofs. There were very few, if any, roads. The ones that existed were in very poor condition. Most people travelled in boats along the rivers. Also, sometime before the Romans invaded, the Celts travelled to the mainland and traded with the Romans.
The religion of Britannia was controlled by the Druids. These priests held enormous power. They solved disputes and kept the oral traditions and knowledge of the tribe.
